Alpha-linolenic acid can help with toxic conditions such as the foal loss syndrome!!!
- According to research provided by the University of Georgia, Athens, the implementation of alpha-linolenic acid has been shown to significantly reduce the effects of endotoxemia in horses.
- The studies concluded that the introduction of alpha-linolenic acid decreased the adverse effects of equine endotoxemia, therefore, inhibiting the occurrence of laminitis, organ failure, colic, and other systemic complications.
- Dr. James Moore spoke of the same findings at the 13th ACVIM forum.
- The August 2000 issue of EVD has an article on the control of endotoxemia with dietary supplementation of alpha-linolenic acid.
- Alpha-linolenic acid also dramatically enhances immune system response in the mare and foal in utero.
Whether a toxicity issue or bacterial/viral issue, alpha-linolenic acid appears as though it may help with this matter and help as a preventative. Regardless, the mare and foal will be much healthier after feeding an alpha-linolenic acid rich product. Alpha-linolenic acid alters the permeability of the cell membrane regulating its "gate keeping properties". These properties can stimulate the uptake of nutrients such as feed additive like the mycotoxin binders prescribed for this problem.
EFA-3 is the richest source of
alpha-linolenic acid available

Note: Since the printing of this document (May 20, 2001), as of July 14, 2001, it has been determined that the mares fed EFA-3 for a period of three months or more have 0% losses!! This includes mares sent to Kentucky.
